From the Assistant Principal 2010-2011
Carthage high school is committed to offering the students an environment free from distraction and interruption, where development of the mind and body are a priority and where students are given the necessary tools to prepare them to be integral and successful members of the community. Part of that commitment comes from the District Code of Conduct (www.carthagecsd.org) and other disciplinary plans and procedures to insure the environment remains safe and free from distractions.
To promote the development of your young adult, we ask for your support with the following key elements. If you have questions contact the office at 493-5030.
Attendance
Students who are not in school cannot receive the education they deserve. Students need to be in attendance daily to receive academic instruction, participate in clubs and activities, and learn important social skills. If a student is absent, we ask that you send a note with him/her the next day explaining the reason for absence. The note must include the date of absence, reason for absence and a parent/guardian signature. Attendance is closely monitored and is a requirement for participation in activities (including prom). Please do your part to be sure your student is in school daily.
Tardiness to school
Students who arrive late to school miss part or all of the material presented in a particular class. Block 5 (2:10-2:44) should be used to get caught up on work missed or for extra help. Students are responsible for information presented even when absent. We realize that some medical appointments and other legal absences cannot be avoided during the school day so please encourage your young adult to stay block 5.
Appropriate Dress
School is the student’s current “job.” Appropriate dress means dressing in a manner that is not distracting or disruptive to the educational process. A student may be asked to change or cover a garment deemed inappropriate during the day. This situation can be avoided by making the proper choices prior to setting out for school. Please refer to the District Code of Conduct for specifics.
Book Bags and Backpacks
Students need to put all book bags and backpacks in school lockers during the day. Purses are limited to the size of a student planner.
Electronic Devices
Electronic devices (ipods, cell phones, personal computers, MP3 players etc.) are not allowed in school during the day. These items should be left at home preferably, but if in school they belong in the off position and in the student’s locker.
Texting is an enormous distraction to the educational environment and can lead to cheating, sexting, threats (aggravated harassment), etc. The main office phone is available for student use to call home. Parents can call 493-5030 and a school official can get a message to your student if necessary. The school is not responsible for lost or stolen items including electronic devices.
Educating and insuring the safety of your student(s) are our primary concerns at Carthage High School. Thank you in advance for your support of the District Code of Conduct which includes the above items. You are an integral part of your student’s education. Together we can make a difference.
